Pelagic Centre

Port of Skagen is Denmark's leading fishing harbour and a centre for the landing of pelagic fish
|
For instance, well over 130,000 tons of herring is landed in Skagen on an annual basis. Port of Skagen has a desire to remain Northern Europe's most important harbour with respect to the landing of herring.
In 2010, Port of Skagen has carried out a deepening of Østbassin 1 (East Basin 1) along piers 2 & 3 to a depth of 9 metres. The expanded water depth is intended as a future-proofing of our facilities whilst, at the same time, underlining our desire to be an active co-player / collaborator to our customers.
Every year, there is a period where, as the only Danish harbour, Port of Skagen receives matie herring. Part of the landed matie is sold at Skagen Fiskeauktion (Skagen Fish Auction) where both Danish and foreign buying agents purchase the herring. Other vessels sell their landings directly to the factories for subsequent treatment.
On an annual basis, huge amounts of industrial fish are landed to FF Skagen. FF Skagen is one of the world's leading producers of fishmeal and fish oil; and they contribute to attracting a considerable number of landings to Port of Skagen.
